Week-Long Family Camp

Come and enjoy an ACTUAL vacation – no worrying about meals, no driving, no figuring out what to do next – just come and be a family.  Spend time together doing a variety of activities – worship, games, crafts, enjoying the lake, campfires, and more.  There is also time for independence – kids have the freedom to go and do activities without parents while being supervised by safe and caring summer staff.  Our summer staff are present to provide hospitality, to be positive Christian role models, and to walk along side your child as they grow in faith.  Family camp is focused on the spiritual development of both parents and children.  Adults will have their own in-depth Bible study led by Pastor Carl Heidel.  Older youth will have Bible study centered on our summer theme, while younger youth will participate in a hands-on Bible study that will help them learn more about stories in the Bible and different faith practices.

What Happens @ Family Camp?

A Typical Day:

  • Breakfast (we cook it and clean it, you just show up)
  • Morning Worship
  • Bible Study – Adults are led by a local pastor while youth are led by camp staff
  • Large Group Games (Adults continue Bible Study)
  • Lunch (again, you just show up)
  • Quiet Time (take a nap, read a book, enjoy a walk…when was last time you had this in your schedule?)
  • Free Time – Activities include: swimming in the lake, fishing, canoeing, crafts, canteen time, rec room, games, or just relaxing.  All activities are supervised by summer staff, so parents can feel free to continue their nap while they send kids out to play
  • Family Time – Specific activities for you to do as a family
  • Dinner (yep, you still don’t have to cook or clean)
  • All Camp Game – Crazy camp games that all ages can participate in
  • Evening Worship
  • Canteen (the camp store that has everything from candy to sweatshirts)
  • Campfire (we provide babysitters at night if you would like to send the younger kids to bed while you attend campfire or other night activities)

Other Activities:

  • Canoe Picnic Day:  The whole camp canoes or pontoons across the lake to enjoy a picnic lunch
  • Adult Afternoon Away:  Leave your kids at camp with the staff and head out for an afternoon away.  Join the group activity and head to a wine tasting or a similar activity or grab your spouse and head off by yourselves – go enjoy a movie or another activity away from camp
  • Evening Pontoon Rides:  Enjoy a peaceful pontoon ride around Big Wood Lake
  • Tournaments:  We have various competitive tournaments throughout the week – Bocce Ball, Carpet Ball, Horse Shoes, and Ping Pong

Feel Free To Bring:

  • Powerboats, Sailboats, Canoes, & Kayaks
  • Bikes, Scooters & Helmets (many people bring them to travel back and forth from the Retreat Center to the Dining Hall)
