Dear Trailblazer Outpost Camper,
We want to thank you for choosing the Luther Point Outpost program. There truly is an adventure waiting for you at Luther Point! Your faith will grow as you experience God’s beautiful creation with the summer staff and other youth who will join you.
Trailblazer Outpost is a time to build on a developing appreciation of nature, as well as to learn some more advanced outdoor skills. During a typical Outpost day, you will spend time helping staff to prepare meals, learning new camping skills (fire building, outdoor cooking, tying knots, etc.) and going on field trips to area places of environmental education. Outpost campers will also spend time each day experiencing some of the faith-filled and fun activities of our in-camp program like games, swimming, canteen, and worships.
While at Luther Point Outpost we want you to have a rustic, real camping experience while being sure you have the energy to enjoy camp. Campers will sleep in tents in our Outpost area across the road from the main camp. In order to keep from attracting unwanted insects, make-up and deodorant are not allowed. Showers are discouraged (however a jump in the lake is strongly encouraged!). Meals in the Outpost are planned with the following in mind: ease of preparation over a campfire or campstove, nutritional value, and popularity of the food. Fresh milk is not available in the Outpost but you will have plenty of water to drink.
In keeping with the camping spirit, we must show our respect for the land and others living around the camp. In order to do this, the camp staff has compiled a list of items you will need to bring with you and also a list of items to leave at home. The list is on the back of this letter. Remember that space is limited in the tents, so counselors will help each camper pack down to the essential items on Sunday. Meals will be outside. All medications must be turned in to the Outpost Medic. Only medications in their original container with a doctor’s order will be accepted. Camp will provide some over-the-counter medications (See Facts Sheet.) The Outpost Medic will have a special place for all medications to be stored.
The Outpost staff are trained in first aid and emergency procedures. If it rains the group will not be pulled out of the Outpost. You will take shelter and wait out the storm. If the weather is severe you will be brought back to the shelter at the main camp. If you have any questions about this please call the camp office.
I am excited that you will be part of the Outpost program this summer at Luther Point. May you discover God in amazing ways during your upcoming outdoor adventure!
